How Rank Tracking works
SnowSEO pulls ranking data directly from Google Search Console for accuracy. For brand new keywords with no Search Console history yet, we use live SERP trackers to fill the gaps until real data arrives.
Rankings update daily, as soon as Google makes the data available for your account.
What you see on the dashboard
Current Position: where you rank on Google right now
Change: movement since the previous day, up or down
Best Position: the highest you have ever ranked for this keyword
Volume: estimated monthly searches for this keyword
Difficulty: how competitive the keyword is
URL: which page on your site is currently ranking
How to read your keywords
The dashboard shows rising keywords, falling keywords, top 10 keywords, and keywords that dropped out of the top 10.
Rising keywords mean your SEO is improving. Double down on what is working.
Falling keywords need attention. Update the content or check what competitors changed.
Top 10 keywords drive most of your traffic. Protect these.
Keywords in positions 11 to 20 are your quickest wins. Small optimizations can push them to page 1.
What the numbers actually mean
Clicks, Impressions, CTR, and Average Position all come from Google Search Console. They are Google's own figures for Google Search only, reported for the property connected to this Brand. They do not include traffic from Bing, from AI platforms, from social, or from direct visits, and they are not measured by SnowSEO. If Search Console is not connected, these four are empty.
Clicks: how many people visited your site from Google search results. This is your most important metric.
Impressions: how many times your pages appeared in Google search results, even if nobody clicked.
CTR (Click Through Rate): the percentage of people who saw your result and clicked it. If this is low, your title or description may need work.
Average Position: your average ranking spot across the keywords in view. Lower is better, and position 1 is the top result.
Two things worth knowing about this data:
It lags by one to three days. Google publishes Search Console data on a delay, permanently. The most recent days will always look incomplete, so compare over 28 days rather than looking at yesterday.
Totals will not match Search Console exactly. Google filters and anonymises low-volume queries, so numbers can differ slightly depending on the date range and dimensions being compared.
For traffic from other sources, use Website Traffic, which draws on Google Analytics, Bing, and PostHog. For visibility inside AI answers, use AI Visibility, which is measured separately and is not part of these numbers.
Why your rankings fluctuate
Small ranking changes of 1 to 5 positions happen every day. Google constantly tests and adjusts its results. This is completely normal.
Only investigate if:
the drop lasts more than 5 days
many keywords drop at the same time
it lines up with a known Google algorithm update
You can check the Google Search Status Dashboard to see if an update was rolled out around that date.
Tracking keywords in bulk
You can select multiple keywords in bulk for any country in Rank Tracking. Add them from the keyword research tool or import them directly. Each keyword is tracked against the target region you selected for your Brand.
Keyword research and rank tracking do not use AI credits. The number of keywords you can track is determined by your plan: 50 on Starter, 150 on Pro, and from 300 up to 2,000 on Scale plans.
Keywords that Search Console discovers for you do not count against that limit until you choose to track them.
