What the article score means

Every article in SnowSEO gets a score out of 100. This score is a snapshot of how well the article is optimized for search engines and AI platforms.

How the score is calculated

The score combines multiple checks:

  • SEO score - whether your title, meta description, headings, and URL are optimized

  • Content score - whether your keywords appear naturally throughout the article

  • AI Search score - how well the article is structured for AI platforms to understand and cite

  • Linking score - whether you have enough internal and external links

  • Coverage score - whether your article covers the topic fully compared to top ranking pages

What the colors mean

  • 80 to 100 (green) - the article is well optimized. Minor tweaks might help, but it is ready to publish.

  • 50 to 79 (yellow) - decent, but several issues are holding it back. Fix these before publishing.

  • Below 50 (red) - significant problems. The article needs work to rank well.

How to run an article audit

The audit checks your article against current SEO and AI visibility standards.

  • Go to the Audit tab inside the article editor

  • Click Run Audit

  • SnowSEO analyzes your content in real time

  • Results appear with specific suggestions

The audit checks things like:

  • Is your title tag the right length?

  • Does your meta description exist and include your target keyword?

  • Are your headings structured correctly (H1, H2, H3)?

  • Do images have alt text?

  • Are internal links pointing to relevant pages on your site?

  • Is your content length competitive with top ranking pages?

  • Does it use structured data that AI platforms can read?

Each check shows pass, warning, or fail with an explanation of why it matters and how to fix it.

How to use the article score before publishing

Aim for 70 or above before publishing. Below 70, there are likely gaps that will hurt your ranking potential.

If your score is low, do not panic. The audit tells you exactly what to fix. Common quick wins:

  • Add your target keyword to the title if it is missing

  • Write a meta description under 160 characters

  • Add one or two more internal links to related articles

  • Include an image with descriptive alt text

  • Expand thin sections to match the depth of top ranking pages

Run the audit again after making changes. The score updates immediately.

Exporting your article

You can download your article in three formats from the editor:

DOC - Microsoft Word format. Use this if you need to share the article with editors or clients who work in Word.

PDF - Portable Document format. Use this for reports, proposals, or sharing final versions that should not be edited.

HTML - Raw HTML format. Use this if you want to paste the article directly into a custom CMS or email template that accepts HTML.

To export, click the Download button in the top right of the article editor and pick your format.

What happens after publishing

Once you publish to your connected CMS or copy the content to your site, the article is live. But optimization does not stop there.

  • Track the article's target keyword in Rank Tracking to see if it climbs

  • Check Traffic after a few weeks to see if the article brings visitors

  • Run a new Website Audit to make sure the published page has no technical issues

  • Update the article every few months to keep the content fresh and the score high
