How long before my brand appears in AI responses
Brand new brands or websites typically take 2 to 4 weeks before AI platforms start citing them regularly. This is not a SnowSEO delay. It is how AI models work.
AI platforms like ChatGPT and Claude build their knowledge from training data and live web crawling. They do not instantly know about every website. Your site needs to be:
Crawled by AI bots (GPTBot, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot)
Recognized as a credible source for specific topics
Referenced in enough places that AI models learn to trust it
SnowSEO starts tracking your prompts immediately, but the AI platforms themselves need time to update their understanding of your brand.
If you just set up SnowSEO today
Your prompts will be tracked within the first refresh cycle
But your brand may show 0 citations for the first 1 to 2 weeks
This is normal. Keep tracking and keep publishing optimized content
What is the difference between a mention and a citation
Mention - Your brand name appears somewhere in the AI response. For example, "Other tools include SnowSEO, Ahrefs, and SEMrush." You are listed, but not necessarily quoted as a source.
Citation - Your brand is specifically referenced as a source of information. The AI says something like "According to SnowSEO..." or includes your URL as a reference. This is stronger than a mention because it positions you as an authority.
Why citations matter more
A mention means the AI knows you exist. A citation means the AI trusts your content enough to quote it. Citations are what drive brand credibility and eventually traffic.
In your SnowSEO dashboard, you will see both metrics. Focus on growing citations over time, not just mentions.
What does it mean if my brand is declining
A declining score or share of voice means one or more competitors is being cited more often for the same prompts you track.
Common reasons for decline
A competitor published new content that AI platforms now prefer
A competitor got featured in a major publication or directory that AI models weight heavily
Your own content has not been updated recently and AI models are favoring fresher sources
AI platforms changed their models or training data, shifting which sources they trust
What to do
Check the Competitors tab to see which brand is gaining share
Read their cited pages to understand what they are doing differently
Update your own content to be more specific, factual, and current
Add new prompts that include your brand name directly to track your progress
A decline is not permanent. It is a signal to act.
Can I track any prompt I want
Yes. You can track any search query or question that your potential customers might ask.
Good prompts to track
"Best CRM for small businesses"
"How to improve website traffic"
"[Your brand name] vs [competitor]"
Branded vs unbranded prompts
If the prompt includes your brand name, it is classified as Branded
If it does not include your brand name, it is Unbranded
Both matter. Branded prompts show whether AI platforms recommend you when users already know your name. Unbranded prompts show whether you appear in discovery queries where users are still comparing options.
What does SnowSEO do when my brand is not visible
When your brand does not appear in a tracked prompt response, SnowSEO records:
Which brands did appear
What sources they cited
The sentiment around those mentions
You can use this to:
Identify which competitors are winning in your space
Study their cited pages to understand what content structure AI prefers
Find content gaps in your own coverage
